In June of 2010 I was invited to give a talk at the Nishinomiya International
Association in Nishinomiya, Japan. The NIA runs many programs to encourage
interaction between Japanese citizens and foreign residents living in
Nishinomiya city.
Part of my talk covered a (very) brief and simple summary of some of the steps
involved in creating a computer animation. I started with a square polygon that
was replicated and rotated to form a cube. Another square polygon was scaled to
form the floor. A camera and lights were added and animated to show their effect
on the scene and the surface of the cube. Then the cube itself was animated. And
finally, texture maps, displacement maps, shadows, and reflections were added to
complete scene.
Included here is the final example animation.
