The ice layer breaking apart at the beginning of this demo actually has an original style frame texture mapped onto its 3D surfaces.
This project makes liberal use of Houdini particals for animating the broken chunks of ice, and transparent/refractive/reflective meta-balls for the drop "crown" effect.
